Cardio and Weight Loss

Cardio and Weight Loss

At every gym, there is a group of people who go straight to the cardio section.

Personal Trainers call them “cardio bunnies.” Although there’s nothing wrong with cardio in itself, doing ONLY cardio for exercise won’t do much to get you closer to your goals. Here’s why:

-You’ll plateau – your body will adjust and you’ll start to burn fewer and fewer calories

-You’ll become skinny fat – you will lose some fat, but you will not gain muscle (and possibly will burn muscle if you’re not getting enough protein in your diet). This means instead of getting that nice toned look you’re going for, you’ll end up looking skinny fat.

-You’ll get bored – unless you’re watching a great show (which means you’re probably not working hard enough anyways if you can multitask like that!), cardio is really boring. If you’re already feeling unmotivated to work out, doing something boring isn’t going to help get your butt in the gym.

Cardio is a great addition to a resistance training program which includes interval training and mobility work! But use cardio as a side chick, and not the main squeeze =)
